Abstract: The present study had as objective to know the changes in the abundance and species composition of the soil seed bank of the seasonally dry forest of Zapotillo along a gradient of anthropogenic perturbation and to determine the characteristics that define to the present species. Four perturbation levels were defined based on the forest density; low, medium, medium-high and high intervention. At each level eight soil samples were taken in five different periods; February 2015, July 2015, December 2015, July 2016 and January 2017. The samples were processed and sown under controlled conditions to observe the germination process. I recorded 71 different morphotypes, of which 31 were recorded in the low intervention level, 32 in the medium intervention level, 34 in the medium high intervention and 26 in the high intervention. Regarding the characteristics of the species, 59 species were non-graminiform herbs and six graminiform herbs. The presence of woody species in the soil seed bank was low, with one tree species.
