Abstract: The objective of this research was to identify the best product of free access satellite images, with which it is possible to extrapolate available meteorological data to determine the reference evapotranspiration rate (ETo) in a regional manner. For the estimation of the ETo by Remote Sensing, 15 images of the city of Loja were analyzed. Four satellite products were taken into account: LANDSAT 8, ASTER, SENTINEL 3 and MODIS. The images were obtained free of charge from the web servers of NASA, USGS and EUMESAT. The ETo maps were calculated with the Penman-Monteith formula, using maps generated only by remote perception and maps generated by interpolation with meteorological data. To determine the best satellite image product, two criteria were taken into account: Precision, determined by the coefficient of determination 〖(R〗^2), and the availability of data, determined by spatial resolution. It was concluded that the satellite product suitable for the calculation of the ETo is SENTINEL 3, because this product has daily images and the coefficient 〖(R〗^2=0.894) is considered good to calculate ETo regionally
