Description: Abstract:In this research work, new technologies respectful of the environment were studied, which could be used in some petroleum and petrochemical refining processes. For this purpose, smectite ceramic sponges were prepared from the city of Loja, with different amounts of calcite (20-40%). Using the replica method on sponges of polyurethane and Luffa (Luffa Aegyptiaca), which were impregnated with smectite-calcite mixture mud, were dried in oven at 90°C and after were calcined at temperatures ranging between 900°C and 1100°C, in order to eliminate the organic material of sponges that served as support and forming porous ceramic sponges. The calcination temperature effect on the pressure drop, mechanical resistance and adsorption CO2 capacity in ceramic sponges was evaluated. Removal CO2 by adsorption was carried out by using a stream of mixture gaseous 10% molar of CO2 in He. The results showed that the ceramic sponges modified with 30% of CaCO3 have a CO2 elimination capacity of 80%, mechanical resistance is 400 kPa and pressure drop of 2 kPa maximum.
