Description: OBJETIVO: Determinar las principales causas de morbi-mortalidad en pacientes pediátricos que fueron atendidos en emergencia en el Hospital de la Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, mediante la revisión de registros médicos con la finalidad de contribuir a la elaboración del perfil epidemiológico de la institución. METODOLOGIA: El tipo de estudio fue descriptivo, cuantitativo, con enfoque retrospectivo y de diseño transversal, se tomó una muestra de 332 pacientes pediátricos que fueron atendidos en el servicio de emergencia del Hospital de la Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja. RESULTADOS: Se obtuvo que las principales causas de morbilidad fueron 113 pacientes (34,04%) de causa respiratoria, seguido 86 pacientes (25,90%) de las causas de gastroenterología y 55 pacientes (16,57%) de causa traumatológicas. CONCLUSIONES: Que las tres principales causas de morbilidad pediátrica son diarrea y gastroenteritis de origen infeccioso con un total de 27 pacientes (8,13%), Rino-faringitis aguda con un total de 16 pacientes (4,82%) y neumonía no especificada con total de 16 pacientes (4,82%)
To determine the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in pediatric patients who were treated in emergency at the Hospital of the Technical University of Loja, by reviewing physicians in order to contribute to the development of the epidemiological profile of the institution's records. METHODOLOGY: The type of study was descriptive, quantitative, retrospective and cross-sectional approach, a sample of 332 pediatric patients who were treated in the emergency room of the Hospital of the Technical University of Loja was taken. RESULTS: It was found that the leading causes of morbidity were 113 patients (34.04%) of respiratory illness, followed 86 patients (25.90%) of the causes of gastroenterology and 55 patients (16.57%) of trauma cause. CONCLUSIONS: That the three leading causes of pediatric morbidity are diarrhea and gastroenteritis of infectious origin with a total of 27 patients (8.13%), acute pharyngitis Rino-a total of 16 patients (4.82%) and unspecified pneumonia with total of 16 patients (4.82%).
