Abstract

Abstract: This work was performed at the Health Sub-Centernamed Virgen del Milagro , in Cuenca. This sub-center belongs to the first level of care corresponding to zone 6 of the Ministry of Public Health. The intervention project of essential care for the elderly was based on interviews conducted and care records. It was implemented with the elderly who have pathologies associated with aging: arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and osteoporosis, among the main ones. These pathologies without treatment and proper care may present physical dependence. In this sub-center, there are not enough educational and recreational programs. As a result, there is not sufficient information about the diseases, and the elderly have low self-esteem. Due to this, they feel forgotten by society that is not aware of their rights. With the implementation of the project "Essential Care for the Elderly at the Health Sub- Centre Virgen Del Milagro , in Cuenca, in 2013 , the organization of the Club of the elderly was achieved. Besides, educational workshops, occupational therapy, and the development of a guide for the group of the elderly to develop recreational activities have been accomplished.
