Abstract:The present research work shows the model of economic growth and productivity of the manufacturing sector in the Ecuadorian economy during the period 1980-2013 through the theories of Kaldor (1966), who notes that the manufacturing sector is the engine of growth and Thirlwall (1979), which emphasises the importance of the external sector is the key to increase the rate of long-term expansion. Therefore the econometric results indicate that economic imbalances are due to the little influence of the manufacturing sector which shows, that the increase in the gross domestic product of the country is more due to the export of primary products (petroleum), having the manufacturing exports few significance in the productivity of the secondary sector, based on the results, we can concluded that the Ecuadorian economy must export products with high added value in relation to goods imported from its trading partners.es_ES
