English language students and their motivation to learn the language

Abstract

Despite the high educational value and high importance of motivation, it becomes very little in regard to promotion, guidance and maintenance for learning a foreign language. This study aims to determine the perception of students in terms of motivation concerns and explore both what motivates them to learn English as that which hinders their learning. The subjects of this research are high school students Liceo Cristiano de Guayaquil. The sample consists of 20 students from 5 different English classrooms. Once granted permission to access the site, an anonymous questionnaire was administered to participants. students to answer the questions affirmatively or negatively adding the reasons was asked, if necessary. The latter would help clarify their arguments and supporting research in detail. Observe classes on a second visit after application of the questionnaire favored familiarization with the site and checking the teaching-learning process. The data were analyzed and interpreted taking into account previous studies. According to the results, students are encouraged to learn and teachers make their classes interesting and promote a good relationship with them.
