Abstract: Dry forests in Ecuador are considered a biologically important area for its high number of endemic species of flora and fauna unique. These forests are found with a high degree of threat which reduces the surface of these ecosystems. In the present study the diagnosis of taxonomic diversity in Arenillas Ecological Reserve, located in southwestern Ecuador was performed. 10 sampling sites, each with three plots were established; 20m x 20m; intended for timberline, 10m x 10m; shrubby vegetation and youth and plots of 3m x 3m; regeneration, where information diameter at breast height (DBH) and height of each individual was recorded. 675 individuals distributed in 21 families and 27 species were recorded, most of the Bignoniaceae family dominance was observed, and at the level of tree species, the most abundant was Tabebuia chrysantha (Jacq.) G. Nicholson. considered important for their value as timber species. Was the most dominant shrub Croton sp., For regeneration, we note that Simira ecuadorensis (Standl.) Steyerm was the species with the highest number of seedlings
