Agricultura convencional y agricultura agroecológica: un análisis teórico y empírico

Abstract

The objective of the present work is to determine by means of an empirical evidence analysis advantages and disadvantages between conventional agriculture and agroecological agriculture. To do this, academic studies related to the subject were used, as well as some data from the World Bank and the Surface and Agricultural Production Survey of the INEC. The results indicate that conventional agriculture has benefited from increasing production and is involved in economies of scale, but because of poor agricultural practices it has economic implications for farms, because intensive tillage and pesticides, monocultures, Irrigation have caused impacts on the environment and health, leading to a reduction in production, and low incomes leading to unsustainable agriculture in the long term; While agroecological agriculture uses environmentally friendly practices, creates new and more jobs, with the appropriate wage improving the living conditions of small and medium producers, helping to boost these agricultural activities to promote economic and social development from the country.
