This study was related to The Use of Supplementary Materials for Teaching Children in EFL Classes, its principal aim was to determine and analyze the type of supporting materials used by teachers in elementary schools. More specifically, the analysis aimed to determine whether the supporting materials were used according to the contents and students’ needs; in addition, this research analyzes aspects such as quality, frequency and variety of material used in the observed classes. The observations took place in a private elementary school in Quito with children from the 4th (eight years old approximately), 5th (nine years old approximately), and 6th (10 years old approximately) grade. On each grade, ten classes were observed to determine the type, pertinence, and appropriateness of materials. The methods used to analyze the results were: Qualitative and Quantitative. Main conclusions show that frequently used materials were: white board, posters, flashcards, pictures, word cards, objects, dialogues, songs, handouts, and tales. Finally, it was observed that teachers do not use a variety of materials for teaching children; they tend to use visual materials rather than other types.es_ES
