Description: | This research report is entitled “The Use of Supplementary Materials in EFL Classes: A Comparative Analysis of Public and Private High Schools”. The general objectives are to determine and compare the type of supporting materials used in EFL public versus private high schools. The research took place in two schools located in the town of Portoviejo, Manabí. As the public school, Colegio Técnico Uruguay was chosen, and as the private school, Arco Iris High School was selected. In each of the schools, 3 grades were chosen: 8th, 9th and 10th, to conduct the investigation. One parallel of each gradewas used for the investigation in both schools. In the public school, each grade consisted of approximately 40 students, and in the private school there were around 25 students per grade. Five classes were observed in each grade, the supplementary materials used being counted (quantitative method) and analyzed (qualitative method) according to quality, pertinence, and appropriateness. When concluding this investigation, the most important conclusion that was drawn was that in the private school supplementary materials are used more frequently than in the public school, but the difference is minimal. |
