dc.descriptionThe present research determined the use and type of supplementary materials such as: visual audio, audiovisual, realia and online in EFL classes (English Foreign Language) with the purpose of comparing and verify the pertinence (related to the topic and objective) and appropriateness (student’s age, level, needs and learning style). This research was done in two high schools from Machala city, one public and one private, including 30 observed classes : five classes in 8th grade, five classes in 9th grade and five classes in 10th grade of basic education, being fifteen classes in public and fifteen classes in Private high school. Students’ age was eleven to fifteen years old. In this study we used the quantitative (Teachers and students’ surveys) and qualitative methods (observed classes description). Based on these collected data and tabulated we did a comparative analysis between both high schools. The main conclusion is that the visual materials were the most used in both high schools, which have played a significant role during the teaching learning process enhancing students in terms of motivation and interest.es_ES
