This study explores the use of supplementary materials to support the EFL instruction. The purpose of this research was to analyze the use and type of the supporting materials in EFL (English Foreign Language) classes for children according to five variables: visual, audio, audiovisual, realia, and online by quantifying the use of the materials (indicators) per class. The study was conducted in the year 2011 in a private co-ed school in Latacunga city. The sample consisted of students who were in from 4th, 5th, and 6th grades with ages from 8 to 11 years old. The data were collected through observation, surveys, interviews, and questionnaires. The information was analyzed through a qualitative analysis, which focused in a description of each material, an analysis of the pertinence, appropriateness, quality, and learning styles. After that, the quantitative analysis focused on the frequency of use of the supporting material. The most relevant conclusion is that the materials that are used the most for EFL classes for 4th, 5th, and 6th, grades were included visual materials, followed by the material that use audio and realia.es_ES
