| Abstract: | Abstract: Worldwide, during the last decades, a significant increase of patients with chronic kidney disease has been observed, it can be prevented, but it has no cure, it is progressive and does not present symptoms until very advanced stages when the solutions are already highly invasive and expensive as hemodialysis in wich one of the most frequent complications are bacterial infections.The present work aims to investigate the prevalence of bacterial infection associated with central venous catheter use in patients undergoing hemodialysis in the Renal Unit "Nefroloja" during the period May 2017 - October 2020 in the city of Loja - Ecuador, through the analysis of final results of blood culture and catheter tip culture. It is an epidemiological, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study of period and primary source; the sample consists of 63 patients undergoing hemodialysis, 73% were positive for bacterial infection by use of central venous catheter and the most isolated microorganism was Staphylococcus aureus (30%) |
| Description: | Resumen: A nivel mundial, durante las últimas décadas, se ha observado un importante incremento de pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica, se puede prevenir, pero no tiene cura, es progresiva y no presenta síntomas hasta etapas muy avanzadas cuando ya las soluciones son altamente invasivas y costosas como la hemodiálisis en la que una de las complicaciones mas frecuentes son las infecciones bacterianas. El presente trabajo pretende investigar la prevalencia de la infección bacteriana asociada a uso de catéter venoso central en pacientes sometidos a hemodiálisis en la Unidad Renal Nefroloja durante el periodo mayo 2017 octubre 2020 en la ciudad de Loja Ecuador, mediante el análisis de resultados finales de hemocultivo y cultivo de punta de catéter. Es un estudio epidemiológico, de tipo observacional, descriptivo, transversal de periodo y fuente primaria; la muestra está conformada por 63 pacientes sometidos a hemodiálisis de los cuales el 73% resultaron positivos para infección bacteriana por uso de catéter venoso central y el microorganismo más aislado fue el Staphylococcus aureus (30%). |
