El impacto de la pandemia COVID-19 en el desempeño financiero de las empresas turísticas, transporte y comercio de la provincia de Esmeraldas

Abstract

Abstract: The pandemic caused important economic consequences to many countries. In Ecuador, no studies have been carried out that quantify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial performance of tourism, transport and trade companies in the province of Esmeraldas, but in the present investigation, it is possible to calculate it using the quasi- experimental method. The type of research was descriptive, deductive type. 71 companies were analyzed from which the financial information between the years 2017-2020 was extracted from the website of the Superintendence of Companies, Securities and Insurance. A projection of the profitability indicators was made and compared with the actual result of the year 2020. The results indicated that the most affected sector in most of the indicators was tourism due to the impossibility of carrying out its operations. Regarding trade, its impact was less, especially in sales; On the other hand, on the transport side, it showed a higher than expected profitability due to the demand for logistics services that involve this sector.
