Abstract

Abstract: Vernacular architecture is the architecture that was not designed by a professional but is the result of needs, customs, and traditions, as well as years of trial and error to obtain what we know today as native architecture. The purpose of this research paperwork is to design a contemporary urban house applying the principles of integral sustainability of the vernacular architecture of the city of Loja. Therefore, we have considered as a systematic process for the development of the topic, the analysis of two vernacular buildings considered of patrimonial interest, constructed under local techniques and materials;allowing to value the ancestral identity through the cataloging of the principles of economic, environmental, and cultural sustainability. These parameters of vernacular buildings contain immersed lessons of how traditional constructions already possessed principles that we sought today with sustainable and resilient architecture. Consequently, we applied this knowledge in the design of urban housing in the Punzara Chico neighborhood.
