| Abstract: | Abstract:Non-timber forest products are important because when used sustainably they provide ecosystem services and are considered an economic alternative for the local population. Therefore, the economic and environmental valuation of NTFPs in the dry forest of Zapotillo County was analyzed by reviewing previous studies of NTFPs in the area, interviewing environmental authorities and conducting surveys of the inhabitants. Based on the results of the research, the feasibility of production and marketing of carob (Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC.) was analyzed, as it is the NTFP species that has the highest level of significant use in the area. The purpose of the titling work is to provide the Zapotillo canton with a sustainable economic alternative to generate income from the production and commercialization of carob (Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC.) without causing an environmental imbalance, since the carob (pod or fruit) would be used for sale. Because of the significant income from the production and marketing of carob, it is feasible in Zapotillo County as a complementary activity to others in the area. |
| Description: | Resumen: Los Productos Forestales No Maderables (PFNM) son importantes, ya que al ser utilizados sosteniblemente permiten la provisión de servicios ecosistémicos, además que se consideran una alternativa económica para la población local. Por ello se analizó la valoración económica y ambiental de los PFNM del bosque seco en el cantón Zapotillo, de modo que se revisó estudios previos de PFNM realizados en la zona, se entrevistó autoridades del ámbito ambiental y se aplicó encuestas a los habitantes, en base a los resultados de la investigación se analizó la factibilidad de producción y comercialización del algarrobo (Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC.), al ser la especie de PFNM que presenta mayor nivel de uso significativo en la zona. La finalidad del trabajo de titulación es brindar al cantón Zapotillo una alternativa económica sustentable para que lleguen de ser posible a generar ingresos con la producción y comercialización de algarrobo (Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC.) sin provocar un desequilibrio ambiental, ya que se utilizaría la algarroba (vaina o fruto) para su venta. Por los ingresos significativos de la producción y comercialización de algarrobo resulta factible dentro del cantón Zapotillo como una actividad complementaria a las demás realizadas en la zona. |
