Abstract

Abstract: This research arises from the need to know the cost of capital and economic value added in the food industry in zone 7 of Ecuador, period 2018 and 2019, ISIC 1020. For the study, 9 companies in the sector were taken into account, which represent the total population, reflected in the corporate directory of the Superintendency of Companies, Securities and Insurance. Using a descriptive methodology, of an exploratory nature, with a quantitative approach, the cost of capital and the economic value added (EVA) were estimated, for which the calculation of the leveraged beta, capital structure, weighted average cost of capital (WACC), cost of common shares through the CAMP and cost of debt (kd), later the net assets and finally the EVA were calculated, through the residual method, which allowed knowing the value creation of the food sector. Concluding that this subsector destruction value, despite the fact that some companies reported creation of value, it was also evident that the companies do not comply with the requirements for the presentation of financial statements.
