Evaluación de la efectividad de manejo del sitio Ramsar La Tembladera , Provincia de El Oro

Abstract

Abstract: The La Tembladera Ramsar site is a wetland of international importance, recognized by the Ramsar convention on December 6, 2011; located in the Bellavista parish, Santa Rosa canton, El Oro province, in the Republic of Ecuador, it has an area of 1,471 hectares. This Management Effectiveness Evaluation (EEM) research aimed to know quantitatively and qualitatively the percentage (%) of management using the R-METT methodology of the Ramsar Convention and the multi-temporal analysis of vegetation cover with satellite information from the years 2000, 2010 and 2018. The Management Effectiveness percentage obtained, in June 2022, was 50.52%, which is interpreted as Unsatisfying management. The native forest cover has deteriorated from 74% to 7.44% in the period 2000 to 2018. The site presents negative affectation in the EEM, since in 2015 it was 70%. The main cause of the percentage decrease is the lack of budget to finance the actions included in the 2009 Wetland Management Plan.
