Abstract

Abstract:Dollarization in Ecuador is one of the transcendental events in the history of this Latin American republic. Applied during the most turbulent time in history finance, as a last resort, managed to allow the country to get out of the terrible problem economic and social that lived during the last years of the decade of the 90, with what since then the nation has achieved stability never seen before. It's for this reason that the present work seeks to analyze the effects that dollarization had since then up to the present, by means of the identification of the factors that propitiated this decision, and how it changed the main macroeconomic variables, and finally that impact it had on Ecuadorian citizens. It was determined that the terrible devaluation of the sucre, accompanied by the bankruptcy of banks and economic difficulties of the government led to dollarization, where GDP had high growth during the first 10 years, but since 2011 it has been anemic, interest rates have been reduced and less volatile, and finally that poverty and the Gini coefficient have decreased during these 20 years of dollarization.
