Percepciones sobre la propuesta de conservación del proyecto manejo de las áreas de conservación municipal y uso sostenible (ACMUS) de la población Pisaca, cantón Paltas

Abstract: The creation of Municipal Conservation and Sustainable Use Areas (ACMSU) is an initiative that seeks to promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in specific areas within a territory. In this context, the objective of this research was to analyze the perception of the inhabitants on the conservation proposal proposed in the framework of the implementation of the project Management of the ACMUS of the canton of Paltas to determine its applicability and the empowerment that it generates in the inhabitants. For this purpose, a mixed methodology was used, applying the survey to 364 inhabitants of the canton who benefit from the water sources, technicians belonging to the municipal government and Natural Foundations and International Culture, and owners of the land that is part of the boundary of the ACMUS. The main findings show that both inhabitants of the canton and landowners agree with its creation; however, people who have conservation agreements know what an ACMUS is and have received benefits for themselves and their families. This has not been the case for the population of Paltas. Therefore, both groups believe that the Municipality should take initiatives focused on the creation of compensation and conservation agreements with the people living in the sources of supply as a means to improve its institutional commitment to the environment.
