| Abstract: | Abstract: The present case is about a 91-year-old elderly woman who voluntarily attended a Gerontological Center for a psychological evaluation. The patient reports having memory problems; this situation has affected her ability to carry out activities of daily living, which in turn has generated an irritable mood, feelings of loneliness and difficulty relating to others. To evaluate the symptomatology, various techniques were used, including psychological interviews, observation and psychological reagents. These tools provided a more complete picture of the emotional, cognitive and behavioral state. In this way, the diagnosis of Dementia in specific diseases classified elsewhere (F02.8) established in the ICD-10 was confirmed. Regarding the treatment, a cognitive-behavioral intervention and occupational therapy of eight sessions plus one follow-up session were applied to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. The therapeutic objectives were achieved, evidencing an increase in her cognitive capacity. In addition, a significant decrease in feelings of loneliness was observed and social skills were developed. |
| Description: | Resumen:El presente caso trata sobre una adulta mayor de 91 años que asistió de manera voluntaria a un Centro Gerontológico para una valoración psicológica. La paciente presenta problemas de memoria, esta situación ha afectado su capacidad para llevar a cabo actividades de la vida diaria, lo que a su vez ha generado un estado de ánimo irritable, sentimientos de soledad y dificultad para relacionarse con los demás. Para evaluar la sintomatología se utilizaron diversas técnicas que incluyeron entrevistas psicológicas, observación y reactivos psicológicos. Estas herramientas permitieron tener una visión más completa del estado emocional, cognitivo y conductual. De esta manera se confirmó el diagnóstico de Demencia en enfermedades específicas clasificadas en otro lugar (F02.8) establecido en el CIE-10. Respecto al tratamiento se aplicó una intervención cognitivo conductual y terapia ocupacional de ocho sesiones de duración más una de seguimiento orientada a evaluar la efectividad del tratamiento. Se lograron cumplir los objetivos terapéuticos evidenciando un incremento en su capacidad cognitiva. Además, se observó una disminución significativa en los sentimientos de soledad y se pudo desarrollar sus habilidades sociales. |
