Abstract: Abstract: The research seeks to determine the association between the perception of loneliness and the relationship with the mascot in young people from Loja. It is important for mental health and people who can inform themselves about the existing benefits of interacting with pets. It is based in a cross-sectional design, quantitative, observational, prospective and correlational approach. Non-representative sample of 115 young people was collected in various settings such as parks, homes, veterinary clinics and store Pets, three instruments were used: Ad Hoc Pets, Monash Pet Owner Relationship Scale (MDORS-M) and Perception Scale of loneliness University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA-10). The results indicate that a 54.8% are women, 84.1% own a dog, of these 58.5% are male and moderate levels of loneliness (M= 29.03), there is no significant relationship with the three dimensions of the owner's relationship with his pet. It is discussed, as although the Pets are theoretically an important part of the emotional life of young people, their relationship does not correlate significantly with their perception of loneliness.
Description: Resumen:La investigación busca determinar la asociación entre la percepción de soledad y la relación con la mascota en jóvenes de Loja. Es importante para la salud mental y las personas que puedan informarse sobre los beneficios existentes de la interacción con mascotas. Se basa en un diseño transversal, enfoque cuantitativo, observacional, prospectivo y correlacional. Muestra no representativa de 115 jóvenes, se recolectó en varios escenarios como parques, hogares, veterinarias-clínicas y store Pets, se utilizaron tres instrumentos: Ad Hoc Pets, escala Monash de relación del dueño con su mascota (MDORS-M) y la escala de percepción de soledad University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA-10). Los resultados indican que un 54.8% son mujeres, 84.1% poseen un perro, de estos el 58.5% pertenecen al sexo masculino y niveles moderados de soledad (M= 29.03), no existe relación significativa con las tres dimensiones de la relación del dueño con su mascota. Se discute, como a pesar de que las mascotas teóricamente son parte importantes en la vida emocional de los jóvenes, su relación no correlaciona significativamente en su percepción de soledad.
