Abstract

Abstract: This research project explores the academic preferences of students from law in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with emphasis on the SDG 16, which addresses peace, justice and building strong institutions. The analysis focuses in the subject of Human Rights and in the case "Palacio Urrutia and Others vs. Ecuador". The complexity between criminal law and fundamental freedoms is highlighted, underlining the importance of legal training committed to equity and sustainability. The Findings highlight the need to overcome challenges, such as negative perceptions on certain areas of law, and take advantage of opportunities to improve training legal. Measures are proposed to strengthen the social commitment of students of law, improve the judicial system and advocate for conscious academic choices. The Recommendations include encouraging interdisciplinarity, focusing on critical areas of law and promote a deep understanding of the SDGs. This study addresses the legal training as a comprehensive process that goes beyond academics, involving an active commitment to social transformation and collective well-being.
