Abstract

Abstract: In this research work that was developed based on Sentence No. 004-15- SCN-CC of the Constitutional Court of Ecuador is related to the Development Objective Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. This ruling addresses issues of indigenous justice and the relationship between ordinary justice and the indigenous justice in Ecuador. Specifically, the Constitutional Court denied the consultation proposal by a criminal judge on the constitutionality of a trial record of the indigenous justice, arguing that indigenous justice must be respected within the constitutional framework of plurinationality and interculturality. Addressing issues of access to justice and strengthening institutions judicial, including the recognition of indigenous justice systems, this ruling contributes directly to the fulfillment of SDG 16. Promotes the rule of law and equal access to justice for all citizens, regardless of their origin ethnic or cultural. Furthermore, by reaffirming respect and integration of indigenous justice within the system Ecuadorian judicial system, the ruling strengthens national and local institutions, which is fundamental to achieving SDG 16 of Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
