Abstract: In this study, an extract from Echinopsis pachanoi was obtained by dichloromethane: methanol and by liquid-liquid partition in hexane and ethyl acetate. The fraction obtained in ethyl acetate presented the highest antineoplastic activity in human cancer lines, with an inhibition of about 50%; the methyl ester compound of linolenic acid was present in this fraction. The extract obtained in dichloromethane: methanol showed a 39% inhibition on prostate cancer cells and anthelmintic activity with a percentage of immobility of S. venezuelensis L3 larvae, for the concentrations of 600 and 1000 μg/ml of 54.9% and 81.3% at 24 hours and 47.9% and 85.9% at 48 hours exposure to the extract. The IC50 obtained for this extract was 595.1 μg/ml at 24 hours and 538.1 μg/ml at 48 hours. Phytochemical screening revealed that the dichloromethane: methanol extract had greater phytochemical richness; however, alkaloid and terpene compound levels were similar in both samples.
