Students perceptions on their listening comprehension difficulties in EFL classrooms: An Ecuadorian case

Abstract:1AbstractThis research, entitled "Students and teacher's perceptionsabout the factors that influence the achievement of an intermediate level in relation to the CEFR of English in third year high school students at a private school in Quito", aims to investigate student motivation factors, as well as teachers' pedagogical and language proficiency factors that influence the achievement of an intermediate level in relation to the CEFR.Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to develop this research. The data collection was carried out through a survey conducted with sixtythird-year high school students, as well as a survey and an interview with sixteachers of the high school section. Finally, the information was corroborated with a class observation. As a result of this research, it can be concluded that students show an extrinsic motivation due to academic-professional improvement factors, however their voluntary language consumption outside academic hours is low, as well as their oral production within the class is minimal. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust certain practices in the classroom, especially in the permanent use of the English language by students, so that they significantly improve their oral production.
