Abstract: The following study was undertaken with the aim of identifying levels of “burnout” and related factors in doctors and nurses who work in a downtown hospital in Salitre, located in the Guayas province. The methodology utilized is of an exploratory, qualitative and transactional character, and was based on the application of the following instruments: Socio-Demographic and Labor Questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Mental Health Questionnaire (GHQ28), Revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQR-A), Social Support Questionnaire (MOS) and the Coping Styles BRIEF-COPE questionnaire; with the aim of knowing if Burnout syndrome was present or not in the study participants, their state of health, personality, perception of social support and their coping styles. The study sample included twenty doctors and twenty nursing graduates. The results obtained show that the longer the working hours performed by a health professional, the greater the possibility of the presence of Burnout syndrome, especially in the nursing staff because they work longer hours and in rotating shifts.
