Ecuadorian high school teachers perceptions on ICT use in their EFL classes

Abstract

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to analyze the perception of Ecuadorian high schools teachers about ICT use in their EFL teaching; for its development, a descriptive analysis with a quantitative and qualitative approach was used, and the data was collected through the survey technique that was applied to twenty EFL teachers, ten male and ten female participants from a state and a private high school in the city of Azogues, in the province of Cañar. In addition, the interview technique was used and conducted to 6 teachers, 3 from a public and 3 from a private high school. The findings show that teachers are aware of the importance of ICT in EFL teaching and are motivated to use them; likewise, male and female teachers are not anxious when using technological devices in their classroom and they are ready to get more training on ICT due to the technological changes. Moreover, some female teachers consider that younger teachers are more skillful that the older ones, which could be a limiting factor for the implementation of ICT in the class.
