Description: Abstract:The main objective of the present project was to determine whether PSA doubling after treatment with radiotherapy, by reviewing medical records, is a reliable predictor of local relapse or disease progression in patients with prostate cancer at the Institute of Cancer SOLCA Loja, during 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 for routine use of these and for their comparison with existing literature. For this, a search was made in the database of the health establishment to the patients with this pathology to be able to perform the registration of the PSA follow-up before and after the treatment. The results obtained in the present study show that the initial PSA more frequently was in the range of >20n g / dL; the Gleason score 7, the clinical stage IV, high risk group, were all treated with radiotherapy, 34 patients 15 had local relapse and 13 disease progression at 5 years, which can be corroborated by established criteria for both local relapse and disease progression. Finally, it was concluded that PSA doubling time serves as a prognostic factor for local relapse and disease progression.
