Ecuadorian high school teachers perceptions on ICT use in their EFL clases

Abstract

Abstract:ICT tools are born as a product of continuous technological development and they are directly related to education and mainly to English language. With this in mind, this study was aimed to discover the perception of Ecuadorian high school teachers about the ICT use in their English classes, the purpose was to detect which aspects related to teachers characteristics could be considered as barrier, as well as which factors of the same characteristics, influence on the ICT use. The study was carried out in Quito with 20 teachers of English as a Foreign Language of public and private high schools, applying a qualitative and quantitative methodology through a survey and an interview. The study revealed that teachers possessed acceptable motivation, flexibility and knowledge of these technological tools, which causes their desire to use them in the classroom. But, the non-existence of them or the lack of modernization of existing ones inhibits the student from benefiting of this modern educational technology. Also, it was detected that there are no training courses for teachers on ICTs from educational authorities or government.
