Abstract

Abstract:The need to live has generated on the shore of the salty estuary an emerging system of palafita housing, implanted between the urban interface and the ecosystem of the estuary on sites vulnerable to floods and landslides. This trend of growth towards the edges of the estuary has generated the partial destruction of vulnerable ecosystems that present great potential in biodiversity. The research proposes to establish intervention strategies in the salty estuary, and from these, develop the design of a palafita housing prototype in the city of Guayaquil. Methodologically, we start with the cartographic analysis (from above) that will allow us to define strategies that correspond to the main ecologies of the estuary. And on the other, an analysis of the ways of living, socio-cultural context (from below) directly facing problems, issues and characters of the place.
