dc.description	Resumen: El presente trabajo investiga la sobrecarga que presentan los cuidadores informales de adultos mayores en el sector sur de la ciudad de Quito. Situación que reviste un problema de salud física y mental que requiere comprenderse para plantear alternativas de solución que mejoren sus condiciones de vida, con el agravante que la población de adultos mayores cada vez es más numerosa y en el caso de Ecuador la oferta de atención sanitaria es limitada. La metodología empleada fue de tipo cuantitativa, descriptiva, no experimental y transversal. La muestra se seleccionó a través de la técnica bola de nieve, con una participación de 20 cuidadores informales y 20 adultos mayores con dependencia. Los instrumentos utilizados en esta exploración fueron el cuestionario sociodemográfico, la entrevista de carga para cuidadores formales de Zarit, la batería cuidar, el índice de Barthel, GHQ-12, y el cuestionario Mental de Pfeiffer. Entre los hallazgos más importantes se identifica una sobrecarga intensa en el 15%, de los cuidadores informales, el 72,5% presenta malestar psicológico, y se observa que el 45% de los adultos mayores presenta dependencia severa.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	Abstract:The following investigation is on the burden on informal care of senior citizens in the south of Quito during the period of 2018-2019. This study has been conducted in order to identify the physical and mental state of the carers allowing us to understand the problems that they are facing so that we can look at viable actions that would improve their conditions. The methodology employed was quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental and cross-sectional. The sample was of non-probabilistic accessibility, selected via a snowball technique, with 20 informal careers and 20 dependent senior citizens. The instruments used in this were: Sociodemographic questionnaire, charge interview for formal care by Zarit, Caring Battery, Barthel Index Battery, GHQ-12, and Pfeiffer Mental Questionnaire. Among the most important findings it was identified an extreme overload of 15%, in the informal carers it was identified that 72.5% had negative psychological distress and with respect to senior citizens it was observed that 45% of people had heavy dependence.	es_ES
