Percepción y Conocimiento Cultural de los Búhos en el Cantón Santa Rosa El Oro

Abstract

Abstract:Throughout history, human beings associate owls and owls with positive and negative stories, attributing characteristics of wisdom or bad omens. Despite this being an ancestral relationship, in South America there are few studies in this regard. Therefore, this work explores the cultural knowledge of owls in the canton of Santa Rosa. It focuses on assessing the level of general, cultural knowledge and perception and attitudes towards these birds. Using a simple random sample, 383 surveys were applied to men and women of different occupations and ages. The results indicate that a large proportion of the population surveyed considers conservation of this species important, they have reduced cultural knowledge, they perceive owls as 'nothing more than birds', and they feel indifferent when they see or hear an owl. Finally, the data showed that when participants see or hear an owl they react indifferently, since they consider them part of the ecosystem and for this they must carry out activities and actions aimed at the effective protection of this group of birds.
