Scope the effect of using the KWL method to understand and remember difficult material at reading in EFL students

Abstract

Abstract: This investigation aimed to measure the effect of using the Know, Want to Know, and Learned (KWL) method to understand and remember difficult reading material. The objective of this research is to determine the perceptions of high school students using the KWL reading method in their classes to improve their reading skills and to increase their motivation for reading. The study was carried out in a private school in the city of Loja with a number of forty-eight students who belong to eight and second senior high school students and the two teachers of each course. For the analysis of the information obtained through interviews for teachers and surveys for students, mixed methods were used that included quantitative and qualitative information. In addition, an action research was conducted giving four classes to students using KWL reading method in their classes. Based on the results, it was concluded that most of the students had a positive perception towards the use of the KWL reading strategy, since it positively impacts their reading skills and increases their reading motivation.
