Abstract

Abstract: This "Strategic Sustainable Tourism Development Plan for the Punín Parish" has the purpose of positioning the Punín parish as a tourist destination with high local and national demand, raising a proposal for sustainable tourism development that improves the income of the population of the 22 communities that belong to the parish, and that until now have been sustained solely by agriculture, taking advantage of the natural environment and paleontological heritage that the area has, to create awareness of its rich historical and natural identity, turning it into a social and economical. In terms of nature, Punín has paleontological vestiges and tracks of Pleistocene animals such as the Andean mastodon, located in the vicinity of the Chalán ravine and in the entire parish head, in terms of history, Punín is the birthplace of Manuela León, first Indigenous heroine of Ecuador, daughter of the Puruhá Kingdom, and resting place of Atahualpa, Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre, data that until now, have been kept out of the knowledge of history that is taught in schools nationwide.
