| Abstract: | Abstract:The main objective of this research work is to address the efficiency and profitability of cooperatives in segments 1 and 2 of Ecuador, during the period 2015-2016, by applying the methodology of data envelopment analysis (DEA) with the CCR-O model with an orientation to output and under the focus of financial intermediation and the use of indicators of operational efficiency and profitability. The information was obtained from the Financial Reports downloaded on the SEPS website (Sector of Popular and Solidarity Economy). The determination of input and output variables applied in the DEA were selected based on the applied approach. The results obtained during the study reflect the need for cooperatives to adjust their operational expenses to improve their levels of technical efficiency and increase their outputs with a greater emphasis on available funds and service revenues; and in this way improve their performance in relation to the segment in which they operate. However, the study results also conclude that segmentation of cooperatives is not a limiting factor in achieving optimal levels of efficiency. |
| Description: | Resumen:El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como principal objetivo abordar la eficiencia y rentabilidad de las cooperativas del segmento 1 y 2 del Ecuador, durante el período 2015- 2016, mediante la aplicación de la metodología de análisis envolvente de datos (DEA) con el modelo CCR-O con orientación al output y bajo el enfoque de intermediación financiera y la utilización de los indicadores de eficiencia operativa y rentabilidad. La información fue obtenida de los Boletines Financieros reflejados en el sitio web de la SEPS (Sector de Economía Popular y Solidaria). La determinación de variables inputs y outputs aplicadas en el DEA fueron seleccionadas en función del enfoque aplicado. Los resultados obtenidos durante el estudio, reflejan la necesidad de que las cooperativas ajusten sus gastos operacionales para mejorar sus niveles de eficiencia técnica e incrementar sus outputs con mayor énfasis en fondos disponibles e ingresos por servicios; y de esta forma mejorar su desempeño en relación al segmento en el que operan. Sin embargo, los resultados del estudio también concluyen que la segmentación de las cooperativas no son un factor limitante para lograr niveles óptimos de eficiencia. |
