Cuarta revolución industrial, tecnología y desempleo en Ecuador periodo 2007-2017

Abstract

Abstract:The fourth industrial revolution is marked by the convergence of different digital, physical and biological technologies that promise that the world will radically change as it is known today. Based on the above, the objective of this research is to check if there is a relationship between technology and unemployment, facing the fourth industrial revolution, as well as describing the effects that this new revolution will have on employment. For this, data on Research and Development Spending (% of GDP), considered as an adequate indicator to approximate the technological presence of a country, and Total Unemployment (% of the total active population) are used; a descriptive-comparative and correlational methodology is used to check whether there is a relationship between technology and unemployment in both developed and developing countries, including the case of Ecuador. The results show that there is still no clear relationship between technology and unemployment, however, it is necessary to know and be prepared for the imminent repercussions that this fourth revolution will bring.
