Abstract

Abstract: Thyroid surgery plays a fundamental role in the treatment of the different thyroid pathologies, it is the most frequent endocrine surgery and after this some complications can occur that may be mild and some even compromise the patient's lifefor this reason, a great preoperative and intraoperative knowledge on the part of the surgeon is needed to prevent their appearance.One of the indications for this surgery is thyroid cancer and, in this context, the city of Loja is in first place in the frequency figures nationwide, making it a topic of interest to deal with. The objective of thisreview is to investigate how often post-surgical complications occur after surgery in young adult and older adults. Articles from scientific databases with conclusive information on the proposed topic were analyzed, comparing the results, and concluding that the most frequent complications that occur after a thyroidectomy are hypocalcemia, recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, hematoma, and site infectionsurgical.
