Abstract

Abstract: The present research aimed to identify the problematic use of the cell phone and its relationship with social support, in young university students aged 18 to 25 in the city of Loja during 2020, to whom the Ad-Hoc sociodemographic survey was applied., the questionnaire of experiences related to the cell phone (CERM) and the questionnaire of social support. The methodology used was quantitative, non-experimental, exploratory, cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational. The results obtained show that 7.28% of young people suffer from problems with cell phone use; the type of perceived social support stands out in a minimum percentage of difference with the other dimensions evaluated in love and affection, followed by social networks, emotional support and finally instrumental support. There is a weak negative correlation between the variables of problematic cell phone use and social support, which is why the values obtained from the correlation are r = -, 172 (emotional support); r = -, 110 (instrumental support); r = -, 105 (social networks); and r = -, 151 (love and affection.
