Estudio de factibilidad de un sistema de alerta temprana para el monitoreo y reporte de incendios forestales en la provincia de Loj

Abstract

Abstract: Fire has been considered a very useful tool for mankind. Its use resulted in the generation of forest fires that progressively modified natural landscapes globally. Ecuador is not exempt from this reality, and every year these events affect the country. The province of Loja is one of the most impacted, registering over 32thousand hectares of forest affected by fires between 2012and 2020. The present research seeks to be part of a holistic solution, relates to an early warning system (EWS) for monitoring and timely reporting of forest fires. Hence, the main objective was to evaluate the technical, environmental, and social feasibility of the EWS under aproject modality, which was evaluated under a time horizon of six years. Methodologically,asystemic process of review and analysis of secondary information was applied, and informationwas collected from a group of experts. The results made it possible, the project ́s implementation is feasible(with an investment of $ 1.013.909,96),twitchwhich 1.1 million hectares could be monitored, including the different land coveragesof the province of Lojaand positive environmental and social impacts.
