Estudio del impacto ambiental en el desarrollo de actividades productivas: análisis de monocultivo de la caña de azúcar Santa Isabel, Azuay, 2019-2022

Abstract

Abstract: This research study analyzes sugarcane monoculture in the Santa Isabel canton. The primary objective is to analyze environmental damage and its main effects on the economy of each sugarcane grower. Using a qualitative-quantitative approach, the study sought to answer questions using three variables: economic, social, and environmental. Documentary information and surveys of local sugarcane growers were also analyzed to obtain data on income, expenses, and production of derivatives. The results obtained demonstrate how important this crop is for sugarcane growers as a source of income for their households. However, production compared to previous years has decreased due to soil wear caused by monoculture, lack of care, and damage to biodiversity. This has made these crops increasingly less profitable for some, demonstrating a significant gap in their income, reflecting the lack of income diversification and the difficulty of maintaining a good quality of life.
