Abstract

Abstract: This research addresses the academic preferences of law students and their connection to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the study of Constitutional Court ruling No. 239-17-EP/22. In this case, it examines SDG 16 and a ruling on Family, Women, Children, and Adolescents. This ruling addresses aspects of custody, parental authority, and guardianship of children and adolescents. This takes into account that rights were violated, as the judges in the case failed to consider the best interests of the child and the children involved, nor did they listen to their opinions in this process. This research underscores the importance of strengthening judicial and security institutions, promoting transparency, accountability, and training to reduce corruption and guarantee access to justice. Likewise, citizen participation in governance and the protection of human rights defenders are highlighted to promote greater inclusiveness and representativeness, aligning with the objectives of SDG 16, which refers to peace, strong institutions, and, above all, justice.
