Abstract: | Abstract: The study "Diabetes Risk in Men Affiliated with the IESS Loja" investigated the relationship between sociodemographic and clinical variables and the development of diabetes, during the period May-August 2023. The specific objectives were to characterize the population and its variables based on the risk of diabetes mellitus, classify the study population according to diabetes risk, and associate diabetes risk with sociodemographic, anthropometric, and clinical variables. The design was observational and analytical cross-sectional and included 1,406 participants who responded to the Findrisc questionnaire. The sample was limited to men without a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, resulting in 548 individuals. The study found that 27.4% were at low risk, 35.9% were at slightly elevated risk, 17.5% were at moderate risk, 16.5% were at high risk, and 2.2% were at very high risk, using a 12-point cutoff for moderate risk. Variables such as high glucose levels, a family history of diabetes, and the use of antihypertensive medications are significant predictors of the development of the disease. |
