Nivel de empatía de los estudiantes de medicina de la UTPL en el periodo abril-agosto 2023

Abstract

Abstract:The objective of this study was to determine empathy levels and their relationship with sociodemographic and academic factors in medical students at UTPL from April to August 2023. A correlational study was conducted that included 139 students enrolled in the first and second cycles, as well as rotating medical interns. A questionnaire addressing sociodemographic and academic variables was administered, along with the Jefferson Medical Empathy Scale (version S), translated into Spanish. The statistical tests used were Pearson's ANOVA, Chi-square test, and Student's t test. The results revealed that students have a high level of medical empathy, but there was a lack of statistical significance between academic cycle and empathy (p=0.363). Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between having failed the same subject more than once and specific dimensions of empathy. This study showed that there is no relationship between academic year and the level of medical empathy.
