Abstract

Abstract: This paper analyzes the state of conservation of heritage buildings using a wooden construction system, from the historical and heritage value to the physical and structural value of the property. The case study is located in Zaruma. The initial technical diagnosis conducted during visits to the property revealed a critical state of structural deterioration, which posed a significant challenge to the initial objective. This situation led to the development of a proposal that will integrate various contemporary and modern elements that will help preserve the essence, function, and typology of the original building. The methodology implemented was based on a diverse methodological approach that encompasses different processes ranging from analytical, comparative, deductive, design, experimental, and reflective. The research process involved an in-depth documentary review, analysis of references, pathological records, strategies, and materiality that provided the basis for decision-making. This research constitutes an essential contribution to the field of architectural heritage, demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating traditional and contemporary construction techniques when carrying out an intervention.
