Abstract

Abstract: This study meticulously examines the financial architecture of Ecuadorian Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) within the CIIU F42 - Civil Engineering Works subsector, spanning the temporal framework of 2018 to 2022, with a distinct focus on the maturities of debt instruments and their association with financial outcomes amid the overarching macroeconomic milieu. Employing a quantitative methodological approach, coupled with both descriptive and correlational statistical analyses, the firms were systematically delineated based on their dimensions, longevity, geographical distribution, and prevailing economic circumstances. This analytical endeavor enabled the discernment of the ratios of short-term to long-term financing, in addition to an evaluation of their interdependencies with both internal and external determinants. The investigation encountered challenges related to the paucity of data pertinent to the CIIU F42 subsector, particularly in the pursuit of financial information regarding both small and medium sized enterprises. Furthermore, this limitation constituted a considerable obstacle to the acquisition of specialized economic data concerning the subsector. Nonetheless, the findings derived from this research elucidate the degree to which financing options mirror both the strengths of enterprises and the constraints imposed by the economic landscape. This inquiry holds substantial significance in enhancing the decisión making frameworks at both the corporate and, notably, the financial strata.
