Determinantes del mercado laboral en el sector agrícola. Evidencia para Latinoamerica.

Abstract

Abstract: The study analyzes the determinants of agricultural unemployment in ten Latin American countries between 2000 and 2022, in a context of increasing rural abandonment and technological transformation of the sector. The study is relevant because of its comparative regional approach and because it addresses a key sector for food security and rural development. The objective was to analyze the determinants of agricultural unemployment (2000 2022) in Latin America. A quantitative methodology was applied using a multiple regression model with panel data and fixed effects, using World Bank indicators. The main results reveal that agricultural value added and the rural population reduce unemployment, while agricultural imports increase it. In contrast, variables such as population growth and land area did not show significant effects. It is concluded that strengthening the agricultural sector requires public policies that promote inclusive technification, regulate imports, and improve working conditions in rural areas.
