Abstract

Abstract: Comprehensive solid waste management allows municipal GADs to efficiently manage waste treatment and reduce the environmental impact they generate; this objective was framed within Agenda 30, specifically SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption). In this context, the research proposed the general objective of "analyzing the comprehensive management of solid waste in Ecuador during the period 2017-2020." The initial hypothesis was that "the direct management model, being the most widely used nationwide, is the most efficient management model in Ecuador." This study was developed in three chapters: the theoretical framework addressed the basic concepts for understanding the titling work; the methodology and characterization of GIRS at the national level presented general information regarding the PNGIDS and GIRS management by GADs; and the study concluded with a description of GIRS indices at the municipal level, as well as the conclusions and recommendations obtained throughout the research.
