Evaluación acústica del Teatro Simón Bolívar de la ciudad de Loja

Abstract

Abstract: In Loja, there are cultural venues such as theaters and auditoriums that have contributed to the development of the performing arts. However, many of these spaces lack the appropriate acoustic conditions to provide an optimal sound experience for both artists and audiences. This study evaluates the sound quality of the Simón Bolívar Theater, a venue that hosts major cultural events such as the International Festival of Performing Arts and the International Music Biennial. The parameters analyzed include: ambient noise, speech intelligibility, sound clarity, sound pressure, and reverberation time. The methodology was divided into three stages: a description of the case study and technical data, the required equipment, and the acoustic evaluation procedure (including parameters, reverberation time calculation, measurement conditions, software application, and data analysis). The results show that the theater performs well in terms of speech intelligibility, but presents deficiencies for classical and popular music due to a concentration of low frequencies. As a result, solutions are proposed, such as the installation of acoustic panels and door treatments, to improve sound quality without compromising the heritage value of the building.
